Swap the gym for a run
Statistics provided by the Fitness Industry Association in January 2010 showed that the average person spends £41.95 a month on a gym membership. How often do you go to the gym and do you really get the most for your money? If the answer is no, why not go for a run instead, it’s free and can keep your body and wallet in shape!
Use your local library
Take advantage of borrowing books for free. A lot of libraries nowadays hold a selection of the latest DVDs for rent at a lower price or even sometimes for no charge at all!
Utilise your friends
Keeping with the same theme, ask your friends and family if they want to swap CDs/ DVDs. It’s a great way to save on rentals whilst enjoying films and music you haven’t seen or heard before.
Check out the car boot sales
One person’s rubbish can be another person’s treasure! Whether you’re buying or selling, car boots can be a great way to pick up things on the cheap or raise some extra cash!
Invite friends over instead of going out
It’s extremely easy to lose track of how much you spend when out with friends. Try inviting people round instead to play games, listen to music or start up the BBQ! There’s a load of other ways to entertain, whilst spending a fraction of the cost involved with a night out.
Holiday in the UK
Who needs expensive, exotic holidays abroad? The UK has some beautiful scenic destinations for you to visit during your holidays. With beautiful beaches, breathtaking countryside and modern cities there is something to cater for all tastes.
Book rail tickets in advance
By booking in advance, travellers can save over a third on most rail tickets, even more if you are travelling outside peak hours. Plan ahead and take advantage of cheaper tickets to visit less well known parts of the UK for a fraction of the normal price paid. Buying a family and friends railcard can also provide significant discounts on rail tickets for people travelling by train with children.
Look out for vouchers and discounts
If you are going out for a meal or a drink, keep an eagle eye out for any vouchers or deals. Many restaurants run ‘early bird specials’ and plenty of pubs and bars have a ‘happy hour’. Plus also remember to keep an eye out for any money saving vouchers in your local paper.
Save on haircuts
Recent news reports have even detailed on one top stylist in London who charges £20,000 for one consultation! That might be an extreme example but you can still save money by looking at alternatives to visiting the salon. Experiment with home colouring kits and for people with very short cuts, home clippers could be the answer! Also colleges are often on the lookout for models so that the next generation of hairdressers can practice their skills. For a fraction of the price on the high street you could have a top stylist of the future tending your locks!
